This week’s big news was of course the announcement that Blumhouse are partnering with Miramax and Trancas Films to take on the new Halloween film, with John Carpenter stepping in to executive produce. Word has come in about who may be lined up to direct, with a number of sources confirming that Blumhouse is currently in talks with Mike Flanagan to helm the film, which is looking at a Halloween 2017 release.
Flanagan teamed up with Blumhouse for his indie horror Oculus and has recently wrapped filming Ouija 2 for the company, and would likely make for a popular choice among fans.
Yesterday however, You’re Next director Adam Wingard went a bit nuts online, tweeting a number of Halloween-related pics, leading to speculation that he is also in contention for the job. The director is on a real hot streak at the moment, having followed segments on V/H/S and its sequel with The Guest in 2014, and whose upcoming The Woods is receiving some serious buzz. He’s also known to be a big Halloween fan.
While any involvement from Wingard is pure speculation, both he and Flanagan represent damn exciting choices for director. We will of course keep you up to date on any developments in the Blumhouse camp. What we do know is that Halloween 2017 can’t arrive soon enough.
