BILL SKARSGARD PROMISES HE’S UNRECOGNIZABLE, “GROSS,” AND “VERY SEXUAL” IN ROBERT EGGERS “NOSFERATU”

Posted on: June 7th, 2024

We’ve seen Dracula on the big-screen a lot over the past year, however, it sounds like none of those performers have gone to the lengths Bill Skarsgard has to perfect the notorious vampire.

Teasing his role as Count Orlok in Robert Eggers upcoming remake of 1922’s Nosferatu, Skarsgard had some intriguing things to say.

We’ve not yet been gifted with a look at the reimagining of the iconic villain, but, according to Skarsgard, it’ll be worth the wait. The actor details taking a method approach to the role, channelling the same energy that made his take on Pennywise so memorable.

The actor details working with an operatic vocal coach to make his voice as deep as possible, and spending up to six hours in the make-up chair:

“It took its toll; it was like conjuring pure evil. It took a while for me to shake off the demon that had been conjured inside of me. I do not think people are gonna recognize me in it.”

Of how he chose to play Count Orlok, Skarsgard elaborated with the following tease:

“He’s gross. But it is very sexualized. It’s playing with a sexual fetish about the power of the monster and what that appeal has to you. Hopefully you’ll get a little bit attracted by it and disgusted by your attraction at the same time.”

Interesting stuff, to say the least! Could this be the most impressive performance of Skarsgard’s already storied genre career? We can’t wait to find out.

Nosferatu is set to release on December 25th 2024 via Focus Features, and stars Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, and Willem Dafoe alongside Skarsgard.
