“BEETLEJUICE 2” WRAPS PRODUCTION FOLLOWING STRIKE

Posted on: December 2nd, 2023

Beetlejuice 2 is officially in the can!

Production has wrapped following two final weeks of shooting after the project was previously stalled by the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Last week, actress Jenna Ortega was spotted back on set in Melrose, Massachusetts, following director Tim Burton’s claims that filming was 95% complete prior to the strike.

Following the announcement of completion, some details emerged regarding the movie’s plot, which has been a closely guarded secret until this point.

It is alleged that Jenna Ortega’s character will be named Astrid Deetz, and she is estranged from her mother Lydia. Winona Ryder’s Lydia is said to be suffering from severe trauma following the events of 1989. She is dealing with a drug dependency whilst trying to juggle a television career.

As for Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice, he is dead set on marrying Ryder’s Lydia, whilst trying to dodge someone hunting him down.

Aside from Ortega, Ryder and Keaton, the project will also feature Catherine O’Hara, reprising her role of Delia Deetz, alongside Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci, all in undisclosed roles. Not confirmed is the persisting rumour that Johnny Depp will also have a role in the sequel.

Currently Beetlejuice 2 is still on Warner Bros 2024 release schedule with a date of September 6th. However, talk persists that the studio may bump the film to 2025 following the delays caused by the strike action.

Finally, it seems Hollywood is getting back on its feet, and we’ll keep a close eye on this sequel should anything change.
