Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice… is coming back!
After months of being drip fed updates and “rumours” of certain actors being attached to the project, it seems everything has been confirmed. Furthermore, the film has a release date locked in place.
Beetlejuice 2 has been in gestation for over thirty years, making it one of the longest waited for sequels in history, but things really began to heat up in recent months with actress Jenna Ortega tipped for a lead role.
Now, not only do we have confirmation that Ortega will headline the sequel, but also that original stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will reprise their iconic roles. Ortega is tipped to play the as-yet-unnamed daughter of Ryder’s Lydia Deetz, with Keaton reprising the role of the titular wise-cracking entity. Alongside Ortega, Ryder and Keaton, The Matrix star Monica Bellucci has been cast in a role that will allegedly see her playing the wife of Keaton’s Beetlejuice. Actors Justin Theroux and Willem DaFoe have also joined the project in an undisclosed role.
With Tim Burton returning to direct from a script by Alfred Gough, Seth Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg as well as Danny Elfman once again serving as composer, expectations for this sequel are sky high.
Currently filming in London, as of May 8th, Beetlejuice 2 is set for release via Warner Bros. on September 6th 2024, 35 years after the original made audiences howl with macabre laughter. We will bring you any further developments on this hotly anticipated sequel as they come in.
