With Di Bonaventura Pictures and Caliber Media preparing to begin production on their reboot of Full Moon’s cult straight-to-video franchise Puppet Master, word has come in that Barbara Crampton has joined the cast.
The beloved horror star already has ties to the series, thanks to a small part in the 1989 original, and will appear in the reboot – entitled Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich – in an as-yet unnamed role. She joins recently-revealed cast members Thomas Lennon (Monster Trucks) Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up), Nelson Franklin (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), feature newcomer Jenny Pellicer and horror/exploitation legend Udo Kier (Suspiria, Flesh for Frankenstein, Blade).
The first Puppet Master film not made by Full Moon, The Littlest Reich will expand the series’ mythology, kicking off a whole new universe with multiple plot strands. Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund – who directed the superb, Evil Dead-esque Wither – are directing, with a script penned by Bone Tomahawk writer/director S. Craig Zahler.
Here is the official synopsis:
‘The Littlest Reich’ follows a recently divorced young man who discovers a mint condition Blade doll in his deceased brother’s closet and plans to sell the toy at a convention in Oregon celebrating the 30th anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. All hell breaks loose at the Postville Lodge during the auction when a strange force animates all of the various puppets throughout the convention as they go on a bloody killing spree.
Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich begins filming this week.
