It’s sometimes hard to keep track of all the sequels, prequels, remakes, and reimagining the Amityville Horror franchise has spawned over the years. For my money, the franchise peaked at Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes, a made-for-TV movie that centres around—no joke—an evil lamp.
Frankly, no other entry in the franchise can possibly top that, but that doesn’t stop studios from trying. The latest contender is the newly announced Amityville 1974, which will serve as a prequel to the original classic.
Financed by the Wonderfilm Media Corporation, the film will be directed by Casey La Scala (The Remaining), who also wrote the script. The plot will focus on the infamous DeFeo murders that supposedly triggered the supernatural occurrences in the house.
Principal photography is set to begin in October. Only time will tell if lamps are involved.
