Josh Sapan, the CEO of AMC, recently spoke to Deadline, who pondered the lifespan of the ever-popular Walking Dead. Although he didn’t explicitly state that the series would be around for 30-50 years, he did compare the programme to shows that have done.
“The use of the word ‘franchise,’ we don’t take lightly. It’s not a sloppy or casual word. We’ve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise.”
I personally stopped watching the series after season 4 as I found it to be repetitive and far less exciting than it should be. However, I know plenty of people that still watch it religiously and I do understand the appeal of Rick and co. and their battles against the living and the dead.
The Walking Dead certainly isn’t garnering as much praise or appealing to as many viewers as it used to, but the viewing figures are still impressive. Even though I don’t watch it, it is hard to imagine a world without The Walking Dead.
What do you think? Could you handle 50 years of The Walking Dead?
