Following the wave of buzz that Cody Calahan’s Vicious Fun generated on the international festival circuit, this violently self-aware horror-comedy throwback arrives on Shudder this week.
Penned by James Villeneuve and starring Evan Marsh (Shazam!), Amber Goldfarb (Appiness), Ari Millen (Orphan Black), Julian Richings (Shudder’s Anything For Jackson), Robert Maillet (Sherlock Holmes), Sean Baek (Killjoys) and David Koechner (Anchorman), Vicious Fun shadows Joel (Evan Marsh), a caustic 1980’s film critic for a national horror magazine accidentally stumbles into a secret underground self-help group for serial killers. With every exit locked, the only thing left to do is for Joel to do his best to blend in with his homicidal surroundings or risk becoming the next victim.
With Vicious Fun available on Shudder from July 29, SCREAM sat down with Amber Goldfarb who revealed the process involved to help her teleport back to the ’80s and discussed gauging her performance to complement the film’s outrageous, self-aware sense of humour and gory dispatches.
