After Black Mirror: Bandersnatch generated a lot of hype, it seemed likely that we’d be getting more choose-your-own-adventure horror projects in the near future. And the next person to tackle one will be none other than Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes).
Hot off the success of his latest film Crawl, Aja will be directing a new haunted house horror movie for Amblin Partners. The production company is working with CtrlMovie technology from Kino Industries to make interactive, branched narrative feature films possible.
Audience members will be able to use their phones in the movie theatre to vote on the key decisions characters take at pivotal moments in the story (so if you’re anything like me and hate people texting and talking during films, this might be a difficult watch). Depending on audience choices, the film’s plot, ending, and running time could vary dramatically.
While the film doesn’t have a title yet, we do know that the branched narrative story is based on an idea by The Haunting of Hill House alumni Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard. Howard will also be writing the script along with Aja and Nick Simon.
