Amazon and Paramount Television are teaming up to develop a new series based on Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 sci-fi horror Event Horizon, and Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You’re Next) has been tapped to direct and executive produce.
In the film, an experimental gravity drive is tested on a spaceship in the hopes that it will allow travel to distant points in the galaxy. After the ship disappears into a black hole and mysteriously reappears, a rescue crew and the inventor of the gravity drive go to investigate. What they find might just be hell itself…
Details about the project are scarce, but it will be interesting to see if the new series will push the limits that the original movie skirted nervously around. Event Horizon famously had footage cut after test screenings left audiences horrified by the carnage and gore. This footage has supposedly been lost to time, but maybe now it can at least be recreated.
