Now, don’t get this confused with the Arctic, which also has a cold title and also stars Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal). This one stars Mikkelsen as the world’s top assassin Duncan Vizla as, on the brink of retirement, he is forced back into the world he wills to escape when an army of killers want him dead.
Polar is based on the Graphic Novel Polar: Came from the Cold, which is famous for its stylised design and complete lack of dialogue. As we can now see, the film has not opted to be dialogue-dre, which is not a surprise. Dark Horse Comics published the novels with added speech bubbles, so we didn’t expect to be treated to a silent, stylish feature. Although, it would have been interesting indeed.
The trailer looks extremely action-packed and stylish, with a retro visual style that explodes with bright colours. Could this rival Keanu Reeves’ John Wick? We’ll soon see.
Polar will additionally star Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick and Matt Lucas. The film will be directed by Jonas Akerlun (Lords of Chaos), who directs a script written by Silent Night’s Jayson Rothwell.
Polar will hit Netflix on 25th January 2019.
