Last we reported, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was sitting pretty, fielding several bids and pitches from the cream of Hollywood. This was all in the name of finding the series a new home, and bringing Leatherface and his kin back to screens.
With bids from Netflix, Paramount, and Monkey’s Paw, talent including Osgood Perkins, Jordan Peele, and Taylor Sheridan are said to have offered pitches.
However, now reliable sources are reporting that one studio and its pitch are the clear front runners.
A24, known for the likes of Hereditary and The Whale, are said to be close to closing a deal with Verve, who represent the Texas Chain Saw franchise.
If the deal is successful, we’re told it will result in producers Roy Lee and Glen Powell overseeing a Texas Chain Saw show for the small screen. The series is the brain child of Strange Darling filmmaker J.T. Mollner, who has previously spoken of the possibility of him taking on the Texas Chain Saw franchise.
However, that’s not all! Producer Roy Lee has also been open about his wish to make another Texas Chain Saw feature with Netflix. As you’ll recall, Legendary Pictures sold 2022’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre to the streaming company, and they’re eager to repeat those streaming numbers.
We’re hearing that, alongside the television deal closing with A24, the company collaborating with Netflix for further feature films is “not off the table.”
So, with two huge companies possibly collaborating to turn The Texas Chain Saw Massacre into a multi-media monster, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of Leatherface and his demented kin.
