A24 AND PEACOCK’S “CRYSTAL LAKE” SERIES BEGINS PRODUCTION

Posted on: May 2nd, 2025

For a while there, it seemed that the long-in-gestation Crystal Lake TV series had fallen victim to the dreaded Friday the 13th curse.

For the past number of years, the Friday the 13th series has been dogged with rights issues and lawsuits. Consequently, there hasn’t been an official franchise entry since 2010’s Friday remake.

When A24 and Peacock announced a prequel series, many fans held their breath and waited for the show to encounter that familiar red tape. Although not a rights issue, the project seemed to crash and burn when showrunner Bryan Fuller exited.

However, things have taken a more positive turn of late, with Brad Caleb Kane taking the reins, and Scooby Doo actress Linda Cardellini boarding the series as Pamela Voorhees.

Now, things appear to be moving forward at a surprisingly fast pace, and the franchise may be roaring back to life very soon.

In an Instagram post, showrunner Brad Caleb Kane excitedly announced that Crystal Lake had opened production offices and was officially in pre-production. Accompanying a picture of a script, Kane wrote:
“Crystal Lake production offices are live. It’s all happening. MACHETES FOR EVERYONE!”

Whilst this is a huge step forward, we’ve received some news from a trusted source that’s even better.

According to our source, Crystal Lake has been issued the working title “Mama’s Boy.” Furthermore, production is aiming to shoot between July and October, with locations being scouted in New Jersey.

If true, this suggests production is a lot further along than we’re led to believe.

In a leaked logline for the “expanded prequel” series, Crystal Lake is described as:
“Following a young mother who gives up a promising singing career to raise her special needs child.”

With things finally looking up for Crystal Lake, we’re expecting further announcements soon. We’ll keep a close eye on this one and bring you any new updates as soon as we have them.
