“A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE” MAKES NOISE AT THE BOX-OFFICE WITH SERIES RECORD

Posted on: July 11th, 2024

It’s been a tough few months at the box-office for horror, but we’re back to our best thanks to Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One.

The highly-anticipated prequel was initially set to debut to $40-50 million by industry insiders, but would ultimately see a domestic debut of $52.2 million.

This total marks the best opening of the burgeoning franchise, and saw the best first-day totals of a Paramount feature post-Pandemic.

However, despite garnering an impressive domestic opening, Day One still missed out on the top spot at the box-office.

Inside Out 2 continued to be a force to be reckoned with, as it continued to dominate the charts for the third week in a row. The Pixar feature is being heralded as a resurgence for the studio, and has become the fastest animated film to reach the $1 billion mark.

Elsewhere, A Quiet Place: Day One proved equally as popular, raking in $45.5 million outside of the U.S. This brings the prequel’s worldwide total to an impressive $97.7 million, an opening weekend on-par with horror juggernauts such as 2018’s Halloween.

Whilst very impressive, and great news for the genre, Day One still has a way to go to turn a profit. The project cost a bloated $67 million to make, and Paramount have funnelled an equal amount into marketing.

However, given the worldwide praise, we don’t doubt this prequel will hold well, despite some serious genre competition approaching.

The main franchise is also set to continue, with A Quiet Place: Part III due for a 2025 release.
