It is unquestionably one of the most anticipated movies of 2025. So, when the trailer dropped for Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, it quickly became Sony Pictures most viewed video of the year.
The atmospheric and intriguing clip begins with a brief recap of Boyle’s previous entry, 28 Days Later, before quickly transitioning to the dystopian race humanity has become.
Seeming to have split into several different and opposing factions, the surviving communities still must handle the ever-present threat of the “infected.”
Following a father and son as they traverse the broken landscape, they appear to encounter everything from a religious cult to a vigilant military community.
With endless action, lush, sweeping photography, and intense performances, Sony have delivered a stellar first look with this clip.
28 Years Later stars Jodi Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack O’Connell.
Director Boyle re-teamed with original screenwriter Alex Garland for the project, following years of fan demand.
Cillian Murphy, who launched his illustrious career starring as Jim in 28 Days Later, is on-board producing this sequel, but it remains unclear if he returns in an acting capacity.
A brief shot in the trailer seems to show a corpse-like creature that strongly resembles Murphy, with the moment quickly going viral. Speculation is rife that Murphy’s character has either been killed off, or fallen victim to the infected creatures he fought all those years ago.
However, as of now, all this speculation remains unconfirmed, with Boyle telling fans they’ll have to see the film if they want answers.
To that end, 28 Years Later will open worldwide on June 20th 2025, and is expected to dominate the box-office. How will it fare with audiences? We’re intrigued to find out!
