Hollywood has a long history of “cursed” productions, and Marvel’s Blade remake might just be the latest in the line.

Whilst a release date of November 7 2025 remains in place, we can confirm that Lovecraft Country Yann Demange has exited the project. According to the filmmaker, his stepping down was an “entirely amicable” decision that happened “some time ago.”

Demange is the second filmmaker to depart Blade, with Bassam Tariq exiting the project almost two years ago.

This is just the latest in a long line of setbacks to plague the production. Originally script issues were cited as the primary complication, and to date, four writers have taken a pass at the script.

Production was then shut down early last year as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes brought Hollywood to a standstill.

Despite the plethora of complications, actors Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth remain attached to the project, with Ali set to tackle the title role.

Blade first made his debut in Marvel’s 1973 comic The Tomb of Dracula. Subsequently, the character was brought to the big screen in 1998 and portrayed over 3 films by Wesley Snipes.

After two decades of attempts, it seemed a reboot was finally getting off the ground. However, now things look very uncertain.

We’ll keep on top of this one and issue any further updates.
