“WOLF CREEK: LEGACY:” JOHN JARRATT TO RETURN FOR FRANCHISE REBOOT

Posted on: September 13th, 2024

As the twentieth anniversary of Wolf Creek approaches, we’ve received the unexpected news that a series reboot is in the works.

Entitled Wolf Creek: Legacy, it has been confirmed that series star John Jarratt will reprise his iconic role as villain Mick Taylor.

Series creator Greg McLean will return to oversee production, alongside Resident Evil producer Jeremy Bolt. Wolf Creek 2 editor Sean Lahiff will take the director’s chair this time around, bringing to life a script by Duncan Samarasinghe.

Aside from Jarratt, the only cast member currently confirmed is Jay Ryan. The former Neighbours actor will be familiar to genre fans for his portrayal of adult Ben Hanscom in 2019’s It: Chapter 2.

Wolf Creek: Legacy will follow a family of American tourists that mistakenly trespass on Mick Taylor’s land. After their parents sacrifice themselves to buy time, a pair of siblings enter the fight of their lives against Taylor.

Of the new movie, series creator Greg McLean said the following:
“I’ve always believed in the power of fresh perspectives, and that’s why I’m thrilled to introduce Sean Lahiff as the director of Wolf Creek Legacy. Sean isn’t just stepping into this world; he’s been a part of it for years. This new chapter in the Wolf Creek saga is something I’m incredibly excited about: it’s a bold new story that honours the roots of the franchise while pushing it into new, uncharted territory.”

Sharing his thoughts, director Sean Lahiff added:
“I aim to deliver the horror and suspense that fans of the Wolf Creek franchise and wider genre theatre goers expect but to add a new depth to the story. We’re exploring the psychological terror of being hunted, the fear and resilience of these young characters, and the nightmarish quality of the Outback itself. This is a story that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, but it will also tap into something deeper – the primal fears that dark fairytales have always played on.”

As of this writing, casting continues, with a view to have the project before the cameras in 2025.
