“WELCOME TO DERRY” GETS AN UPGRADE AS CAST INCREASES

Posted on: July 10th, 2024

Following the confirmation that Bill Skarsgard will reprise his role as Pennywise, interest in the series Welcome to Derry has increased considerably.

In fact, anticipation for the prequel show has ramped up to such a degree, that Welcome to Derry is no longer a streaming only event. It has been confirmed that the series is now “An HBO Original,” and will air on the network, alongside being available on streaming service Max.

In further news, Welcome to Derry has added several actors to the cast, including to alumni from the Saw series.

Peter Outerbridge, star of Saw VI, and Thomas Mitchell of 2021’s Spiral have been announced alongside a plethora of other talent. Alixandra Fuchs, Kimberly Guerrero, Dorian Grey, BJ Harrison, Shane Marriott, Chad Rook, Joshua Odjick, and Morningstar Angeline will all feature in the series.

They join the already announced cast members including Skarsgard, James Remar, Taylour Paige, and Chris Chalk. However, besides Skarsgard, the roles each actor will play remain unknown.

What we do know is Welcome to Derry is not yet confirmed as the show’s official title, so it may air as something completely different. The series will also act as a prequel to the 2017 film, taking place primarily in the 1960s.

However, we have it on good authority that some scenes will take place even further back in time, presenting as a Pennywise origin story.

It director Andy Muschietti is set to direct four of the eight episodes and produce alongside his wife Barbara. So, we can expect a decent sense of continuity between the series and its theatrical franchise-mates.

Welcome to Derry is currently filming in Alberta, Canada, following several strike-related delays. The show is set for an unspecified 2025 air-date.
