WAYANS BROTHERS TO REUNITE FOR “SCARY MOVIE 6”

Posted on: November 7th, 2024

The Scary Movie reboot has taken a significant step forward, with the announcement of the return of the Wayans Brothers as the creative team.

Keenen Ivory Wayans, along with his brothers Shawn and Marlon, were collectively responsible for the 2000 monster hit, and its 2001 sequel Scary Movie 2.

Whilst Scary Movie acted as a send up of the late 90s slasher boom, the sequel opted to lampoon more paranormally driven movies. Keenen undertook directing duties on both films, whilst Shawn and Marlon had a hand in the script, as well as embodying the roles of Ray and Shorty.

The trio left the series following Scary Movie 2, but the series would continue for a further 3 entries, peaking with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, but quickly falling off.

The announcement of the Wayans’ return hints that we may be getting a parody on legacy sequels, which fans of been clamouring for.

Following Shawn Wayans’ official return announcement on Instagram, a joint statement was released by the trio discussing their feelings:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theatres, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

Similarly, Miramax boss Jonathan Glickman echoed:
“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

The return of the Wayans brothers has left fans hopeful that franchise stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall will also agree to appear. Faris and Hall starred together in 4 of the 5 Scary Movie entries as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks respectively.

Faris recently commented on her willingness to return, stating the securing of Hall would be vital to her reprisal of Cindy Campbell.

Scary Movie 6 is expected from Paramount Pictures and Miramax in 2025; however, no concrete date has been announced. We’ll keep an eye out for any further updates.
