This is probably my favourite news of the week. A live-action Scooby-Doo origin (because we all love an origin tale) will pit Velma and Daphne against zombies. Titled simply Daphne and Velma and set before the gang get together, this film will see the girls meet when Daphne transfers to Velma’s school. The pair soon become embroiled in a case surrounding missing teens, but the teens start showing up again…but they’re zombies!
The two young ladies have already been cast; Sarah Jeffery (Wayward Pines) will be playing Daphne, while Sarah Gilman (I Didn’t Do It, Last Man Standing) will be in the role of Velma. You may remember that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardellini were Daphne and Velma in the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo – which was hideously mediocre – but the pair were great at portraying their respective characters.
Could this be the start of a new live-action Scooby-Doo franchise? We hope so! But, who could be better than Matthew Lillard at playing Shaggy?
Suzi Yoonessi is in the director’s chair with a script written by Kyle Mack and Caitlin Meares. Daphne and Velma is currently in production, with a release date slated for 2018.
