Unearthed Films has acquired the US rights to the Argentinian giallo Francesca from directors Luciano Onetti, with a script from himself and his brother Nicolas Onetti. Luciano Onetti directed a previous modern day giallo with Deep Sleep AKA Sonno Profondo, so he’s no stranger to the genre that’s ripe with shadowy killers that are keen to kill their victims in bloody and imaginative ways.
Synopsis:
It’s been 15 years since the disappearance of little Francesca, daughter of the renowned storyteller, poet and dramatist Vittorio Visconti, and the community is stalked by a psychopath bent on cleaning the city of “impure and damned souls”. Moretti and Succo, questioned by the ineffectiveness of the police force, are the detectives in charge of elucidating the mystery surrounding these “Dantesque” crimes. Francesca seems to have returned, but she is not the same girl who everyone knew.
Check out the trailer for Francesca below. It’s filled with all the elements you’d expect from a giallo film; a killer donned with leather gloves, a sexually charged narrative and a sumptuous set design. The music is also as bold and haunting as you’d expect, with every tone certain to make your skin prickle.
Francesca will be released in the USA later this year. Keep your eyes peeled for a UK release.
