With the long-promised Tremors TV reboot coming together fast since Blumhouse hopped onboard earlier this year, we’ve got some casting news for you. Kevin Bacon – who starred in the original 1990 cult classic – has been attached since the project’s inception, and will reprise his role of Valentine McKee, but he now has some back up as he once again battles the giant Graboids.
Shiloh Fernandez (pictured in 2013’s Evil Dead remake) will play Nico Garza, who works for Earl’s Graboid Waste Gobbling company, and is waiting for any chance he has to get out of Perfection, NV. Vinyl’s Emily Tremaine also joins the cast as Valentine’s whip-smart daughter Emily McKee, who has managed to leave her hometown and has recently graduated. Stopping by Perfection to visit her dad, she is disappointed to find he is still an alcoholic loser, who seems incapable of change. Also now signed up is Megan Ketch (Under the Dome, American Gothic), who plays charismatic doctor Mindy Sterngood, who has a strong fondness for Bacon’s Val, who saved her from a Graboid at age 9.
It was announced last month that Cube/Splice director Vincenzo Natali will direct the pilot for SyFy, which was written by Andrew Miller, who also serves as showrunner, and executive produces along with Bacon, David Schiff and Jessica Rhoades.
The pilot sees the ‘Graboids’ return to the isolated town of Perfection, 25 years since they first appeared. The town puts its hope in Bacon’s Valentine McKee who beat the killer worms once before. To triumph this time however, he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol-dependency and a delusional hero complex.
