While it may not have made much of a splash in the Western World, Thailand’s Buppha Rahtree series is probably the country’s biggest horror franchise. The latest entry, Buppha Rahtree: Haunting in Japan, now has a suitably bizarre trailer, which you can see below.
The first in the series of out-there horror comedies – released internationally as Rahtree: Flower of the Night – emerged in 2003, playing festivals worldwide (including London’s Frightfest) throughout 2004 and ’05. Director Yuthlert Sippapak returned for sequels Rahtree Returns in 2005, 2009’s Rahtree Reborn and the same year’s Rahtree Revenge. Haunting in Japan follows a Thai band who head to the Land of the Rising Sun to shoot a music video, only to run afoul of some malevolent ghosts.
Not only is this new trailer subtitled, but it also promises something pretty damn funny. Here’s hoping the latest Rahtree will gain the series a little more international recognition.
