TI WEST’S “MAXXXINE” IS CALLED “A LOVING TRIBUTE TO ARGENTO” IN FIRST REACTIONS

Posted on: January 13th, 2024

It’s undoubtedly one of the most anticipated genre movies of the new year, and now we’re delighted to know just a little bit more about it.

MaXXXine is writer/director Ti West’s final entry into the trilogy he began with 2022’s X and its prequel Pearl.

Described as a “whodunnit slasher,” MaXXXine will pick up where X left off, joining Mia Goth’s Maxine Minx as she navigates the seedy world of 1980’s L.A.

Since the movie’s wrap, that’s pretty much all we’ve known aside from a few key casting announcements… However, now we’ve learned just a tad more!

According to a reliable source, MaXXXine had its first test screening in Burbank, California, and more has emerged about the plot that has us very excited.

Firstly, we are told the film is a love-letter to the filmmaking styles of both Lucio Fulci and Dario Argento, with similarities being drawn to both Suspiria and The New York Ripper. The comparison to Ripper will no doubt thrill audience members who so adored the seedy vibe of X.

Next, we learned some further plot details that make the hype for the movie even greater. Our source confirms that Maxine Minx will be working on a slasher film, just as a serial killer begins to target Los Angeles. A “whodunnit slasher” set during the slasher movie’s golden age! What more could we ask for?

Despite all the new developments, MaXXXine still doesn’t have a release date, despite rumblings of a February drop. If that’s the case, promo would need to start immediately, but currently all is quiet.

We’ll report any further developments, including a release date, the moment we have them.
