TI WEST’S “MAXXXINE” IS A “WHODUNIT SLASHER”

Posted on: September 3rd, 2023

It’s been a considerable amount of time since we’ve had an update on the status of Ti West’s upcoming sequel to X and Pearl, MaxXxine. Although small, we do have a little titbit for you now, which is hopefully enough to tide fans over until something more substantial.

Last we heard was that the project had wrapped back in May, and to celebrate its completion, we were treated to a first look image of actresses Mia Goth and Halsey in character. Now, a source tells us that MaxXxine will be a good old whodunit slasher!

For this project’s entire run, we’ve been unaware of just where in the horror genre MaxXxine would fall, as it’s two predecessor’s certainly mixed things up. Whilst both X and Pearl contain heavy slasher leanings, neither is a slasher film in the truest sense. Both are in-depth character studies and rely on far more than a gory killing.

We’re sure Ti West has more up his sleeve for MaxXxine and will no doubt subvert our expectations again, but a whodunit slasher set in 1985 is a lot of fans’ idea of perfection all on its own.

MaxXxine will once again star Mia Goth as Maxine Minx, and pick up with her six years after the farmstead massacre of X. She is now LA-based and on a driven quest to become a star in the acting world. Things take a sinister turn when bodies once again begin to fall around the starlet.

Little is known about the plot, and the film has no set release date yet, but we do know the cast includes Halsey, Kevin Bacon, Lily Collins, and Michelle Monaghan, all in undisclosed roles. A trailer is likely quite soon, so we’ll be keeping a close eye.
