Posted on: March 14th, 2024

Acclaimed director Thomas Cailley’s (LOVE AT FIRST FIGHT) visionary new feature, The Animal Kingdom is about to take audiences on a sobering journey into a dystopian world in the grip of a wave of mutations that are gradually transforming some humans into hybrid creatures.

Amidst this situation that is gradually shaking the foundations of everyone’s identities and relationships, François (Roman Duris) does everything he can to save his wife, who is affected by this mysterious condition. As some of the creatures disappear into a nearby forest, François embarks with Emile (Paul Kircher), their 16-year-old son, on a quest to find her with help from a local police officer (Adèle Exarchopoulos).

The film world premiered as the opening night selection of Cannes Un Certain Regard, was nominated for 12 Cesar Awards, and will be released in theatres and on demand tomorrow March 15, 2024 through Magnet. In an exclusive interview, director Cailley gave SCREAM fascinating insights into the film’s core coming-of-age story and how the mutation metaphor impacts every aspect of story. By focusing on the intimate personal journey of the protagonist, Cailley brings humanity and emotional resonance to the chilling futuristic setting. Audiences eager for a thrilling yet thoughtful sci-fi experience will find plenty to marvel at in this ambitious sophomore feature.
