We’re less than a month away from the release of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
Of course, filmmaker Danny Boyle has been heavily hinting for quite some time that the newest wave of films would be a trilogy.
Now, we have official confirmation that a third 28 Years Later film is moving forward at Sony.
The project is currently without a title, but official sources have reported that Boyle will return to direct. Boyle previously directed 2025’s 28 Years Later, but handed directing duties on The Bone Temple to Candyman’s Nia DeCosta.
Also returning is longtime franchise scribe Alex Garland, after writing the scripts for all previous entries.
However, the news that has fans most excited is the return of Cillian Murphy as Jim.
When 28 Years Later was first announced, Murphy teased his involvement. However, the actor would ultimately only return in a producing capacity. However, with news of the sequel, Murphy’s return was slowly teased, with a cameo being confirmed in The Bone Temple.
Now, with the confirmation of a third instalment, comes the news that Murphy will return in a starring capacity.
Production for the untitled third instalment is currently in the early stages, but the project is expected to begin filming in 2026 for a 2027 release.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this project and let you know as soon as we have a confirmed title and release date, so watch this space!
