“If you know your slasher films well then you should find a lot to love in this trailer for The Final Girls. It completely pulls apart the genre, turns it on its head and presents a self-reflexive, smart and funny little flick. If you don’t like to see a lot of spoilers, then you might want to give this trailer a watch, because I fear it gives us just a little bit too much of the story.
This being said, it’s hard to keep up with the trailer because there is so much going on. In a similar style to Cabin in the Woods, The Final Girls looks to parody the horror genre in a loving and clever way. It’s clearly made by a fan of horror – Todd Strauss-Schulson may not have a lot of fear-filled cinema to his name, but he seems to know the genre inside out.
Synopsis:
Max (Taissa Farmiga) and her friends find themselves trapped in the famous 80’s slasher flick that made her late mother a scream queen. The millennial gang joins the throwback camp counsellors with raging libidos (Adam DeVine) to battle the psychotic killer.
I’m always intrigued and interested in intelligent horror films that try to do something new and The Final Girls looks like it’s going to do just that. There’s been a lot of positive buzz around the film and it’s played to generally positive reviews at various film festivals, so it’s definitely one to keep an eye out for.
The Finals Girls will be released in the UK on 12th October 2015 and will get a limited theatrical run in the USA a little bit earlier on 9th October.”
