It feels like it’s been a long time coming, but finally, official sources have confirmed They Follow has wrapped filming.
The movie is a sequel to David Robert Mitchell’s 2015 indie darling It Follows. In the film, Scream Queen Maika Monroe stars as a young woman tormented by a shape-shifting entity. A beautifully crafted allegory for the importance of safe sex, the movie immediately drew critical acclaim and audience adoration.
The concept of a sequel first materialised over two years ago, but the project has gained significant steam in recent months. Most recently, we’d received word that an impressive cast had been assembled, and production would begin shortly.
Shooting had been postponed multiple times in order to facilitate Monroe’s hectic schedule. However, now, filming is complete, and They Follow is in the can!
Alongside returning star Monroe, They Follow will feature Naomi Ackie, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Gandolfini, Tom Pecinka, Melora Walters, Ben Krieger, Natalie Shinnick, and Jan Hoag.
Whilst plot details for the sequel are remaining closely guarded, we do know that the movie will be bigger in scale than the 2015 original.
Alongside Monroe, creator David Robert Mitchell has returned to write and direct the sequel. Mitchell also produces, alongside Tom Quinn for NEON.
Although principal photography is now complete, They Follow remains without a release date.
However, as always, we’ll keep an eye on this project and bring you any further developments. Watch this space!
