A film that is hot on our watch list is Adam Wingard’s The Woods, because the initial hype and early reactions to it are, so far, phenomenal. It has been described as one of the scariest films ever made, which is a statement that is not dished out too often. Of course, this year’s The Witch was also lauded as one of the best and scariest films in years and, personally, I was not a huge fan. The atmosphere was remarkable, but the scares were mild. I’m hoping The Woods will deliver something exceptionally terrifying.
The Woods follows a group of students who discover that they are not alone during a camping trip. It’s a short and sweet synopsis, but I’m optimistic that the film will offer deeply unsettling terror that goes beyond the fear that was conjured in films like The Blair Witch Project.
Check out the new poster for The Woods (right) which channels Cabin Fever and Evil Dead with its ferociously red sky and ominously dark trees. The red and black contrast is absolutely blinding, we love it. If you haven’t seen it already, have a look at the very spooky trailer below and get ready to venture into The Woods when it is released on 16th September. FrightFest anyone?
