“You can’t see them… But they see everything.”

Taking some serious cues from her father’s filmmaking playbook, the first trailer for Ishana Night Shyamalan’s The Watchers is a decidedly creepy but very mysterious affair.

Dakota Fanning delivers a suitably unnerved performance as Mina, a young woman lost in a never-ending forest and stalked by unseen entities.

Told in a very non-linear fashion, we soon learn from the trailer that there are others in the forest, and they’ve banded together as a group of survivors. Becoming used to the nightly stalking and frights, they live together in a sparse cabin within the forest.

Being observed by the unseen beings is their new normal, and they are quite pleased when Fanning’s arrival takes the pressure off them.

Remaining unsettling throughout, the Watchers trailer gives little away, but just enough so that we’re incredibly intrigued by the unique plot it offers.

Ishana Night Shyamalan retains her father’s unconventional storytelling methods and unique visual style with some stand-out shots. The omnipresent mystery throughout the clip also gives us hope that there’s a next-generation Shyamalan twist ending in there too.

Based on the novel The Watchers by A.M. Shine, Shyamalan penned the script and produced the project alongside her father.

Alongside Fanning, the cast includes Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouéré in undisclosed roles.

Watchers will release to screens worldwide on June 14th 2024 from New Line Cinema, and you can check out the unsettling trailer below:
