As you may know, a reboot of Troma’s 1984 film The Toxic Avenger is in the works over at Legendary Entertainment, and Kevin Bacon (Tremors) has signed on to star—reportedly playing the movie’s villain!
Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) is writing and directing the reboot, which will also star Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Jacob Tremblay (Doctor Sleep), and Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom). Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will produce.
Deadline has previously described the film as a “contemporary reimagining” of the Troma classic, adding “The Toxic Avenger is steeped in environmental themes and subverts the superhero genre in the vein of Deadpool. When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.”
