You’re probably thinking that we mean this female-led Van Helsing TV series, but we don’t. There is another Van Helsing re-imagining in the works and this one comes from Universal as part of their plan to re-visit all their classic monsters.
Writers Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Doctor Strange) and Eric Heisserer (Final Destination 5, The Thing (2011), A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)) have been hired to pen the script for the reboot which has been described as an ‘update’ on the story.
As mentioned, Universal are planning to remake, re-imagine or reboot some of their horror classics and there is already a Mummy re-telling in the work. Spaihts is also the writer or this and Alex Kurtzman (People Like Us) is the director and producer.
Universal is ambitiously creating its own monster universe as the plan is for all these films to have a shared connection. With the different worlds of superheroes dominating the box office, it’s not a shock that Universal want to get in on the action. Spaihts has a proven ability to write for films that are part of a wider world, and his involvement with The Mummy should further enrich the writing for Van Helsing. It’ll be great to see a horror-focused world and we can’t wait to see Universal’s attempt to delve in to a connected universe of their own.
There is no scheduled release for Van Helsing yet, but The Mummy will be unleashed in June 2016 and there is an Untitled Universal Monster Franchise Film slated for an April 2017 release, we wonder what that could be?
