Just a couple of weeks ago we speculated that Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter One was about to announce a February release date. Although the word came from a trusted source, we did speculate how that would leave time for lengthy promo and hype.
Well, it seems the news gods have heard our musings, as The Strangers: Chapter One was issued an official release date this past week!
According to a short teaser posted on star Madelaine Petsch’s official Instagram account, this highly anticipated reboot will haunt screens on May 17th 2024!
This latest incarnation of the 2008 favourite will act as a soft reboot, following many of the same beats as the original, but is not a remake, as director Renny Harlin has continually stressed.
Two more chapters are in the works, allegedly already complete, and are said to take the series in a “very different direction” to anything we’ve seen before. According to Harlin, they will examine the effects of a random act of violence on its survivors, and why perpetrators commit such crimes.
Cruel Summer star Froy Gutierrez will lead alongside Madelaine Petsch in Chapter One, with the pair playing Maya and Ryan, a young couple stranded at a rural Oregon Air B’n’B. Their night takes a sinister turn when they are terrorized by three masked intruders.
It is a great time for horror, and 2024 is looking like a jam-packed year with this latest addition. We are very eager to find out how this one does for Lionsgate on May 17th, and hope you are too.
