“Is Tamara home…?”
They’re the words we all dread hearing when there’s a knock at our door. Now Lionsgate brings the iconic phrase to taunt us once more with our first look at Renny Harlin’s upcoming Strangers reboot, The Strangers: Chapter One.
In the clip, we get our first look at star Madelaine Petsch of Riverdale fame, as she fields unwelcome knocks at her door. Wary of her unfamiliar surroundings, the young woman shows smarts and refuses to answer. However, the disruption continues, much to her growing discomfort, before a shadowy figure reveals itself inside the home.
The clip oozes the same claustrophobic feel and skin-crawling discomfort that made the 2008 original such a success. So, it’s fair to say that Renny Harlin and team are on the right track.
Further Strangers news comes in the form of some leaked teaser posters, likely from New York Comic-Con where the film had a panel. In one, we see The Strangers not only pay homage to The Shining, but also their door-chopping antics in The Strangers: Prey at Night. The second poster reveals a much moodier, grungy 90s style image of our three iconic antagonists.
Excitement for the upcoming reboot has been steadily building, with Lionsgate and Renny Harlin slowly teasing information drip by drip. In our most recent update, we heard Harlin discuss how his first chapter will be a solid remake of the 2008 film, but the next two films in the planned trilogy will expand the universe and explore how such trauma has affected the victims in the long-run.
Currently, The Strangers: Chapter One does not have a release date, but is expected in summer or fall of 2024. The film stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez and Gabriel Basso and will follow a travelling couple forced to make an overnight stop when their car breaks down. The night devolves into horror as they are stalked by the titular strangers.
