Alex Essoe (Doctor Sleep, Starry Eyes) and Daniel Zovatto (It Follows, Don’t Breathe) have joined the cast of The Pope’s Exorcist, a new horror film from director Julius Avery (Overlord).
The Pope’s Exorcist is based on the story of Father Gabriele Amorth, the real-life Italian priest who performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican. Father Amorth died in 2016. He was 91.
Russell Crowe (Unhinged) is set to play the legendary exorcist in the film, which previous had Ángel Gómez (Voices) attached to direct. The current draft of the script was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, with revisions by Chuck MacLean. The original drafts were penned by Chester Hastings and R. Dean McCreary and revised by Michael Petroni.
