After dropping a haunting teaser last month, Netflix has unveiled the full official trailer for The Pale Blue Eyes, a Gothic thriller centring around a young Edgar Allen Poe.
Directed by Scott Cooper (Antlers), The Pale Blue Eyes is set in “West Point, 1830. In the early hours of a grey winter morning, a cadet is found dead. But after the body arrives at the morgue, tragedy becomes savagery when it’s discovered that the young man’s heart has been skillfully removed.
“Fearing irreparable damage to the fledgling military academy, its leaders turn to a local detective, Augustus Landor, to solve the murder. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, Landor enlists the help of one of their own to pursue the case, an eccentric cadet with a disdain for the rigours of the military and a penchant for poetry—a young man named Edgar Allan Poe.”
Christian Bale (American Psycho) and Harry Melling (Harry Potter franchise) star as Landor and Poe respectively. The cast also includes Gillian Anderson (Hannibal), Lucy Boynton (I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Toby Jones (The Mist), Harry Lawtey (Industry), Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2), Timothy Spall (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), Hadley Robinson (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), Joey Brooks (Molly’s Game), Brennan Cook (Encounter), Gideon Glick (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus), Matt Helm (Tragedy of Macbeth), Steven Maier (The Plot Against America), Charlie Tahan (Ozark), and Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now).
In addition to directing, Cooper wrote the script for The Pale Blue Eyes, which is based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel of the same name. Catch the film on Netflix from January 6th, 2023—and check out the trailer below!
