Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for The Blue Blue Eyes, a Gothic thriller centring on a young Edgar Allan Poe and a series of murders that took place at the United States Military Academy, West Point, in 1830.
Christian Bale (American Psycho) and Harry Melling (Harry Potter franchise) star in the film. Scott Cooper (Antlers) directed and wrote the screenplay, which is based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel of the same name.
In The Pale Blue Eyes: “In the early hours of a grey winter morning, a cadet is found dead. But after the body arrives at the morgue, tragedy becomes savagery when it’s discovered that the young man’s heart has been skillfully removed. Fearing irreparable damage to the fledgling military academy, its leaders turn to a local detective, Augustus Landor (Bale), to solve the murder. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, Landor enlists the help of one of their own to pursue the case, an eccentric cadet with a disdain for the rigours of the military and a penchant for poetry—a young man named Edgar Allan Poe (Melling).”
The cast of The Pale Blue Eyes also includes Gillian Anderson (Hannibal), Lucy Boynton (The Blackcoat’s Daughter), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Toby Jones (The Mist), Harry Lawtey (Industry), Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2), Timothy Spall (Sweeney Todd), Hadley Robinson (Moxie), Joey Brooks (Molly’s Game), Brennan Keel Cook (Encounter), Gideon Glick (American Horror Story: NYC), Fred Hechinger (Fear Street trilogy), Matt Helm (The Tragedy of Macbeth), Steven Maier (Unsane), Charlie Tahan (Ozark), and Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now).
