The cast is really filling out for HBO’s series adaptation of hit horror game The Last of Us! The latest addition: Nico Parker (Dumbo) will play Sarah Miller, daughter of protagonist Joel. If you’re familiar with the game, you’ll know that, uh… things don’t work out so well for her. Gulp.
The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilisation has been destroyed. Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Other cast members for the series include Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) as Tommy, Joel’s brother, and Merle Dandridge as Marlene, head of resistance movement the Fireflies—the same character she voiced in the games. The small screen adaptation is being developed for HBO by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), who is writing and executive producing alongside Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman. Directors include Kantemir Balagov, Jasmila Žbanić, and Ali Abbasi.
