Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) has been cast in HBO’s upcoming series adaptation of hit zombie game The Last of Us, which is being developed by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl).
Set 20 years after modern civilisation has been destroyed, The Last of Us will follow Joel, a hardened survivor, who is hired to smuggle to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Luna joins previously announced cast members Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who will play Joel and Ellie respectively. Luna will play Tommy, Joel’s younger brother. A former soldier, Tommy hasn’t lost his sense of idealism and hope for a better world.
Mazin is writing and executive producing the series alongside the game’s writer and creative director, Neil Druckmann. Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) will direct the pilot.
