“Of all the men to cheat… you picked John Kramer?”
Jigsaw is back! After quite the wait for a trailer, Lionsgate finally released the first look at Saw X in the early hours of Sunday July 30th, after premiering at Midsummer Scream.
Was it worth the wait? Absolutely! John Kramer is rightfully pissed, perhaps at his most vengeful here, with Saw X seeing his final hope for a cure to his cancer cruelly dashed.
Kramer, played by Tobin Bell, journeys to Mexico City in the hopes that a “miracle cure” procedure will save his life. Kramer’s “jigsaw” mode is activated when he discovers no procedure has taken place, he still has cancer and is many thousands of dollars lighter.
“I still have a lot of work to do” Kramer ominously tells his oncologist. Indeed, he does, as we soon see the offending witch doctors in chains. As The Air That I Breathe by The Hollies slowly begins to play we’re treated to quick glimpses of the various games ahead for the guilty bunch.
Without doubt the trailer’s stand-out moment comes when Kramer forces one surgeon to remove a piece of his cerebral cortex without anaesthetic… Of course, there’s a perfectly timed cut before we see the goods, but this promises to be a brutal scene.
Looking much more like a “traditional” Saw movie than more recent entries, the trailer, and a handful of newly released stills have fans wild with anticipation.
Ending with a glimpse of returning co-star Shawnee Smith, the team behind Saw X have certainly gone above and beyond to ensure the final product fits in flawlessly between the first and second chapters.
Saw X is set to release September 29th 2023, breaking the Halloween season release date Saw fans expect. However, if the over 6 million views the clip has already accumulated are any indicator, fans couldn’t wait that long. Are you excited to see what fresh horrors Jigsaw has cooked up? We are!
