If you’re in the mood for a night of supernatural scares, we’ve got just the thing for you!

It probably seems like just yesterday they were in theatres, but you can stream both Tarot and The First Omen at home right now.

Opening on April 5th, Arkasha Stevenson’s The First Omen was greeted with surprising critical praise. The prequel to Richard Donner’s 1976 classic was lauded for its eerie atmosphere, strong performances, and attention to period detail.

However, upon hitting screens, The First Omen underperformed, finishing $7 million below its projected gross. Taking in just $8.4 million in its opening weekend, the prequel quickly fell off in the States. However, The First Omen would perform better overseas, and ultimately grossed $53 million worldwide.

Still, on a budget of $30 million, this means the movie didn’t break even, which is likely a factor in the quick streaming turnaround.

Tarot is quite the opposite, as Spenser Cohen’s supernatural tale was lashed by critics but fared better with audiences.

Finding Tarot “generic” and “tired,” the film’s creature effects were the only thing that earned some critical praise. However, the film became the first horror release of 2024 to over-perform at the box-office.

Initially expected to gross just $7 million on its May 3rd release, Tarot would open to $12.5 million, surprising everyone. Subsequently, it has now grossed $40 million on a minuscule budget of $8 million.

This unexpected over-performance and the lack of cost is likely why Tarot is available so quickly. Sony Pictures put little into marketing the picture, meaning it turned a financial profit fast. Now, the studio is undoubtedly hoping to make more with this early streaming debut.

So, there’s plenty of choice for new genre releases, if you’re feeling a mite bored and fancy a good scare.
