Jennifer Nettles (The Righteous Gemstones, Harriet) has joined the cast of director David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist, which is currently in the works over at Universal, Blumouse, and Morgan Creek.
According to Variety, Nettles will play a “primary role” in the reboot, though the exact details of her role have not been revealed. The film’s cast also includes Leslie Odom Jr. (Glass Onion), Ann Dowd (Hereditary), Lidya Jewett (Nightbooks), Raphael Sbarge (Once Upon a Time), and newcomer Oliva Marcum. Green, Scott Teems, and Danny McBride teamed up once again to write the script, having previously collaborated on Green’s Halloween reboot trilogy.
While plot details remain scarce, we know that The Exorcst is the first film in a planned trilogy and that Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Chris MacNeil, played by Ellen Burstyn, reprising her role from the 1973 original.
The Exorcist is set to release theatrically on October 13th, 2023.
