Do you believe…?
That’s what Blumhouse and Universal want to know as they unleash three horrifying teaser posters for David Gordon Green’s upcoming legacy sequel to 1973’s The Exorcist.
The three eerie posters feature a pair of somewhat familiar looking visages of possessed children. In what is clearly a loving nod to the original classic, the make-up on show here is strikingly similar and plants great hope for what to expect in the finished film.
The Exorcist Believer will resume 50 years after the events of William Friedkin’s classic and will star Leslie Odom Jnr as the desperate father of a possessed child. His search for answers leads him to former actress Chris MacNeill who went through the same thing with her own daughter Regan.
Ignoring all previous sequels and the events of the 2016-17 television series, Green’s movie will see the return of 90-year-old original Exorcist star Ellen Burstyn. The actress will reprise her role as Chris MacNeill in a part Burstyn said she “couldn’t refuse.”
Although Burstyn returns alongside a cast of new characters, including Odom and Hereditary star Ann Dowd, it is still unclear if Linda Blair will reprise her role as Regan MacNeil. Initially Blair publicly stated she “hadn’t been approached,” but Universal later amended that Blair spent “several days” on set as an “advisor.” Given the cryptic phrasing, we’ll just have to wait and see the movie if we want a clear answer.
A trailer is expected to debut online soon, but will likely play in theatres with Universal’s Oppenheimer.
The Exorcist Believer will debut exclusively in theatres on Friday October 13th with two sequels in the works should the film succeed.
