The Exorcist: Believer will now release on October 6th 2023.
In an unexpected announcement August 31st, producer Jason Blum tweeted that the demonic possession sequel would debut one week earlier to avoid competition from Taylor Swift’s Eras concert film.
Quoting one of the star’s biggest hits, Blum mused “Taylor Swift, look what you made me do… The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/06/23.”
If the word is spread fast enough by all involved and important media outlets, the release change shouldn’t cause too much disruption. The studio has opted to make the announcement with plenty of time to spare before the release.
This news comes as director David Gordon Green commented on what fans can expect from his legacy sequel.
“The Halloween movies are in the slasher genre,” Green began. ““They’re a place to play, and maybe have some campy fun. But this one was more researched and a bit academic. The narrative we were sculpting, and the relationships, were more dramatic. It’s a very different approach.”
“We’re talking about the horror genre, but my main ambition was to preserve the dramatic integrity, and not lean into what’s evolved within the genre as a result of the original film.”
So, it appears Green has taken The Exorcist: Believer very seriously and has attempted to craft a slow-burn thriller with shocking moments of unbridled terror, akin to the 1973 original. Has he succeeded? In a very short time, we shall find out.
The Exorcist: Believer stars Leslie Odom Jr, Jennifer Nettles, and Ellen Burstyn, reprising her role as Chris MacNeil for the first time in 5 decades.
The movie is set to make heads spin all over again on October 6th 2023, remember that date!
