April 2023 heralded the unveiling of Max, formerly HBO Max, and Warner Bros announced an exciting line of projects for the streaming service.

Among the content promised was a television series expanding the reach of the blockbusting Conjuring universe.

However, it’s been 14 months, and we’ve heard nary a peep about the project since. With The Conjuring: Last Rites set to end the “main” series whilst spin-off movies continue, fans assumed this meant the television expansion had been nixed.

However, according to Max’s head of development Casey Bloys, that isn’t the case, as the executive stated this past week:
“There are other properties [in development] like The Conjuring, which is a big movie franchise that we’re developing into a series.”

Given that The Conjuring: Last Rites is supposed to act as the final outing for leads Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, it does beg the question, where could a television series go? Could Wilson and Farmiga be persuaded to remain in the roles in an episodic capacity?

What we do know is that James Wan and Atomic Monster are on board to produce, as is The Safran Company, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Television. So, all The Conjuring Universe heavy-hitters are here, hopefully we’ll have a much more solid update soon.

We’ll keep our ear to the ground.
