It’s always hard to say goodbye…
However, when it comes to The Conjuring movies, audiences were apparently very eager to give the series a memorable send off.
As of September 7th 2025, The Conjuring: Last Rites holds the record for highest global debut for a horror film in history.
Debuting to a staggering $84 million domestically, Last Rites set a franchise record at the US box-office. Internationally, The Conjuring: Last Rites pulled in a further $110 million, for a global total of $194 million.
This officially makes The Conjuring: Last Rites the highest debuting horror film in history, dethroning 2017’s It.
The final opening tally is almost as much as the entire lifetime gross of 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. With the film continuing to sell an unprecedented number of weekly tickets, it looks as though The Conjuring: Last Rites will easily become the highest grossing of the franchise.
Although Last Rites is billed as the last film in the Ed and Lorraine Warren mythos, its financial performance will likely give everyone second thoughts. However, the sheer volume of audience members attending is likely largely due to the movie’s stance as a “finale.” So, should a sequel eventually emerge, the success may not repeat.
So, is it best to leave things be and go out on a high? We’ll see how things shake out should Last Rites continue to rake in the profits as predicted.
Congratulations to all involved in crafting the highest grossing horror debut in movie history. That’s quite the honour to be a part of!
