THE BEAST RETURNS IN FIRST TRAILER FOR “ALIEN: ROMULUS”

Posted on: April 3rd, 2024

The Xenomorph has returned, and so have some of the iconic staples of Ridley Scott’s Alien, in a brand-new teaser for Alien: Romulus.

Going with the less-is-more approach, the 63-second-long teaser begins with a slow tracking shot through the corridors of a spaceship. Voiceover from terrified cast members lets us know that something horrific has unfolded here. Finally, we see two bloody and smashed cryo-stasis tubes.

In a frenzy of quick cuts, we then get a look at what’s in store for us. There’s running, there’s screaming, there’s fire and explosions! Fede Alvarez doesn’t seem to hold back with Romulus, especially where the titular creature is involved.

Although we only see the briefest glimpses of our slimy friend, what we catch is more than enough to pique any fan’s curiosity. A face-hugger leaps violently across the screen, before plunging its tentacles deep into a cast member’s throat… And finally, for the briefest of seconds, we see the fully grown Xenomorph snarling at the camera!

It’s a lot to digest in such a short period, but we love it! The vibe perfectly mirror’s Ridley Scott’s 1979 original, with a lone beast stalking the never-ending corridors of a spacecraft.

Set in-between 1979’s Alien and its 1986 sequel Aliens, Alvarez’s instalment acts as a stand-alone piece. Starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Aileen Wu, and Spike Fearn, the project was pitched as a straight-to-streaming Hulu original movie.

However, bolstered by the success of 2022’s Prey, 20th Century Studios pushed ahead with a full theatrical release.

Alien: Romulus will release to theatres worldwide on August 16th 2024, with more promo material expected very soon.
