THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN LIVES AS SONY PICTURES ACQUIRE “YETI” SCRIPT

Posted on: March 13th, 2024

There are many variations on the Bigfoot mythos. Most tell of a tall, dark-haired ape-like creature that tends to haunt forests and their surrounding hills.

Many movies have been made citing this mythology as their basis, including 1974’s Shriek of the Mutilated, 1980’s Night of the Demon, and Willow Creek from 2013.

However, whilst the tale of Bigfoot may be well worn in the genre, what about his snowbound cousin? Doesn’t the Yeti deserve some love too? Except for 1957’s The Abominable Snowman and the 1977 TV flick Snowbeast, it’s quite difficult to find yourself a decent yeti tale…

That may all be about to change…

Sony Pictures have reportedly paid in the “high six figures” for a spec script by Pete Gaffney entitled Yeti.

According to a logline, Yeti deals with the following:
“Yeti takes place deep in the mountains, where an avalanche unleashes something primeval from the glacial ice. A father and his daughter battle to survive a merciless predator who blends in with the snow.”

Sounds intriguing! Little else is known about the project, as it is still in the very early stages of development. This is the latest in a long line of horror projects from Sony, who have begun a stunning transformation into one of Hollywood’s foremost genre champions.

We will keep an eye out for more updates on this project, hopefully the Yeti is about to rise into the mainstream.
