With Terrifier 2 pulling in a monstrous $15.1 million during its limited release and on a budget of just $250,000, it is little surprise that word reaches us from the Cannes film market that Terrifier 3 is officially underway.
Writer/director Damien Leone will return to helm the project, from a script that was written alongside that of the sequel. The Coven will once again handle distribution, with worldwide sales still being decided, but assuring audiences that Art the Clown will be back, and this time he will reach a much wider audience.
Plot details are currently unknown, but Leone assures us that actor David Howard Thornton will reprise his iconic role of Art. Furthermore, Lauren LaVera will return as Sienna, the young teen that has become Art’s most determined foe yet.
Of the film he envisions, Leone had this to say:
“Terrifier 3 will be another boundary-pushing addition to the horror genre, continuing the no holds barred, uncompromising exploits fans of the franchise have come to expect and celebrate. If you thought Art the Clown’s reign of terror in Part 2 was extreme, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Priscilla Ross Smith of production company The Coven further states:
“There will be a much bigger budget this time around, which is intended to give the filmmakers more creative freedom, and let them be as wild as they can be. And, all jokes aside, we are going for that Oscar this year.”
Filming is “expected” to commence on Terrifier 3 in December of this year and the team are hopeful for a 2024 release.
We will be keeping an eye on this three-quel as it develops.
